Establishing a BI Competency Center and Measuring BI Effectiveness
Earlier this week, I presented alongside Saskia Battersby, Deepa Sankar, and Jerry Hamner (from Rapid Decision) on the topic of "getting the most out of your BI implementation." The objective for this webcast was to talk about how to ensure that SAP BusinessObjects...
Using Sherlock® to Track Down those Pesky Calculation Engine Changes in BI 4.1
As most of you are probably aware, SAP has released an excellent resource detailing calculation engine changes introduced in BI 4.1 with respect to various releases along the way (e.g., XI 3.0, XI 3.1, BI 4.0). The goal with this post is to demonstrate how Sherlock®...

Case Study: Using Sherlock® to Identify Calculation Engine Changes During Upgrade
If your organization has maintained SAP BusinessObjects platforms for any length of time and been through a migration, I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that like me, your team furiously reads the release notes in detail and then proceed to wonder what reports...
Keeping your SAP BusinessObjects Deployment Running Better
You've had your SAP BusinessObjects deployment running for awhile now. Perhaps you've been around since the WebIntelligence 2.x days or maybe you've only been running since BI 4 was released. Either way, I'm sure you've had a few end users problems and probably a few...

Sherlock® KPI: Slackers versus Workaholics
When we released Sherlock 2.3, there were a few interesting updates that came along with it. One of them was the ability to tell which of your users are slackers and which ones are crippling your system – no really. We released a new component with Sherlock 2.3 called Sherlock KPI. It indexes your populated audit database and pulls in the number of times a report has been viewed and refreshed. It also pulls in the users doing the refreshing and viewing. We updated the Sherlock Universe to include relevant objects for that data as well. We even introduced a special object into the Sherlock Universe that determines the effective laziness of a user and categorizes them (e.g., slacker, mildly lazy, active, busy, and killing my servers). Okay, so that last part is a lie, but not a bad idea.
Sherlock® 2.3 is Live
Our code monkeys have been hard at work these last months on the latest and greatest in the Sherlock Inspector Suite. For those of you just joining us, that includes both Sherlock for SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise and Edge, as well as Sherlock CS Edition for SAP Crystal Server. We are TERRIBLE at telling our customers “no” when it comes to new features, so this one is no exception on the new feature dance card. With that, I am happy to share that Sherlock 2.3 has the green light for download.
Evolving Intelligence
It has been a few years since my good friends and I sat in my basement and began exploring the idea of building software to accompany SAP BusinessObjects. As I sit here reflecting on our journey, I am reminded of how fortunate we are for having opportunities, amazing colleagues, and customers that have turned out to be incredible champions for us. But the amazing thing to me is how I have learned over and over again that they can challenge us to continually innovate.
